FAQs for UWI Students

FAQs for UWI Students

What is UWIchoice?

UWIchoice is the acronym for the UWI Cave Hill Online Insight Community for Enhancement. UWIchoice is an online community of students who want to help improve their university - in other words, a group of UWI Cave Hill students who share their views on a regular basis to help shape decisions about how services on Campus are designed and delivered.

What exactly does UWIchoice do?

UWIchoice members participate in online research, answering questions from UWI Cave Hill administrative and academic departments and offices. These units factor members’ anonymous feedback and opinions into their strategic or operational decisions. So, UWIchoice members help the Campus to better understand its most important customers, and be more responsive to their needs.

Who can join UWIchoice?

Any current student of The University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, age 16 or older, can sign up. UWIchoice is diverse, including students who are mature, young and in-between; from all nationalities and backgrounds; and with a broad range of interests, including a strong interest in improving processes and services for students at UWI Cave Hill.

Why should I join?

UWIchoice gives you the chance to make a difference. Your personal, honest views can help management and staff at The UWI Cave Hill Campus to make important decisions. (We publish updates to the 'By student voice' blog to let members know how client departments/units have used student feedback to make changes and improvements to their programmes or services.) In addition, each time you participate in research events, you will earn the chance to win prizes in regular random prize draws. Barbadian students who have opted into the Give Back Programme can also earn credit towards their volunteer hours.

You will also be free to withdraw from UWIchoice at any time, should you change your mind.

What happens after I sign up?

You will receive an automatic email asking you to verify your email address (remember to check your junk mail folder if you do not see it). We will verify your student status (registration for the current academic year/ semester) and then approve your membership.

Then, you will be eligible to participate in research activities. These may be fun polls or questions (prizes may not be awarded for participation) and/or research events on behalf of UWI departments (surveys, discussions, diaries etc. which entitle you to prize draw entries). Look out for future invitations, via email to your official Cave Hill addresss, to participate in research that is in line with your interests or background.

How will you use my personal data?

We will use the contact details you provide to send you invitations to participate in online surveys and other online research activities (e.g. a discussion forum). We will use information about your interests and background to determine which research activities would be most relevant to you. If you are a Barbadian student who has opted to have your UWIchoice participation counted towards your Give Back Programme hours, we will verify your UWIchoice participation by submitting the required Service Hours Verification Form to the Office of Student Services. We will never share your contact details with UWI Cave Hill departments or units on whose behalf we are conducting research (research clients).
