Registration Buddy Programme 2021-22 Semester 1

At the start of the 2021-22 academic year, Campus IT Services (CITS) launched the Registration Buddy Programme, in collaboration with the Office of Student Services (OSS) and the Centre for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL). This programme was developed in response to students’ past requests for support, especially during the course registration period, when many contacted the CITS Service Desk, Admissions or Student Assistants for guidance and help.

During a three-week period, the programme introduced new students to key Campus technologies in bite-sized chunks and provided opportunities for them to put what they had learnt into practice. Additionally, each new student was assigned to a Registration Buddy – a trained, continuing student, who provided personalized support to help the new students become familiar with Campus systems (e.g. CHOL, MyCaveHill Mail, Microsoft 365) and prepare for course registration.

Nearly 1,400 undergraduate and graduate students signed up to receive support from Buddies. Among those who provided feedback on the programme (114), roughly two-thirds said the programme had significantly or moderately improved their confidence or helped them feel more prepared for course registration, while three-quarters said they would be likely or very likely to recommend the programme to a friend.
